They make the vibrators with the rumbliest motors, even if not the most powerful. We-Vibe’s toys are durable, and most importantly, they deliver very strong body-shaking orgasms.
I have tested more than 200 vibrators, and some of the all-time favorites that I keep by my bed are We-Vibe Melt (the best clit sucker I have tried) and We-Vibe Nova 2 (the best rabbit vibrator I own). I also love the dual motor and shape of We-Vibe Rave 2; it is an excellent G-spot vibrator. And We-Vibe Tango is a classic; I haven’t tested a more powerful bullet toy. Plus their toys are very durable, hence the generous 2-year warranty period.
Overall, We-Vibe makes amazing sex toys if you are using them solo. My biggest issue with the We-Vibe vibes is their app. They try to position the brand as a leader in remote control vibrators, but the Bluetooth connectivity of their toys is not stable, they are harder to connect, and the app used to be bad and glitchy. They are improving it (kudos for that), but it is still far behind the competitors like Lovense.
I have a lot of We-Vibe vibrators since they create orgasmic toys. Below are my thoughts on each We-Vibe toy I own, plus a link to a more detailed review. But before I go into that, here is a little history of the brand; it is really interesting how they started the company.
How was We-Vibe created?
Bruce and Melody Murison started the We-Vibe in their basement in Ottawa. In 2003, Bruce was laid off from his high-tech job, and instead of looking for a new job, he and his wife decided to create something that couples could share. This is how the idea of the couple’s vibrator was born. The development process involved creating multiple prototypes, refining the design, and ensuring it complemented lovemaking. The final product was the C-shaped vibrator that We-Vibe is famous for now.
The Murisons faced financial challenges, mortgaging their home and using credit lines to fund the project. They had a goal to sell 10,000 units to avoid bankruptcy. They exceeded their sales goal, selling 20,000 units in three months in 2008. The product received endorsements from sex experts and was featured on Oprah.com. It was also included in Oscars gift bags in 2009.
We-Vibe has been a leader in the couples vibrator market since launching its first model in 2008. In 2014, the company released an upgraded version, the We-Vibe 4 Plus, which featured Bluetooth connectivity and a mobile app that enabled remote control from anywhere with an internet connection. This groundbreaking long-distance control made the We-Vibe 4 Plus an award-winning model, winning Best Couples Sex Toy at the 2015 Sexual Health Expo.
By 2015, We-Vibe’s innovative couples vibrators had sold nearly 4 million units. However, in 2016, the company faced controversy when hackers revealed that We-Vibe’s app collected intimate usage data without user consent. This violation of privacy resulted in a 2017 class action lawsuit and a settlement requiring We-Vibe to pay approximately $127 to each affected customer.
Despite privacy concerns, We-Vibe continued advancing couples pleasure technology and expanding its market reach. 2018, We-Vibe merged with the German company Womanizer, another major player in intimacy products. We-Vibe and Womanizer aim to leverage their combined expertise to further innovate in the sexual wellness space. Together, they formed the WOW Tech group, which has offices in Berlin, Ottawa, and Hong Kong.
